Environmental Resident Residential Lead

For the 2020-2021 academic school year, I was selected to be an Environmental Resident for my college’s Sustainability Center. Taken from our Handbook, the “Environmental Resident (ER) program is a cornerstone of the college’s sustainability vision, and as an ER you serve as an ambassador for sustainability within your community.

As ERs, you will work in collaboration with the Center for Sustainability to encourage sustainable living habits. You will be required to work and maintain communication with your fellow ERs and the Center for Sustainability, collaborate with members of the campus community, and produce educational content”.

For the 2019-2020 school year, I was selected to be the ER Residential Lead. My job duities included

  • Communicate frequently with the ER Lead Team on residential programs, updates, roadblocks, suggestions, comments, ideas for/of the ER Program
  • Manage the Waste Checklist for Residents Halls
  • Communicate with First-Year RAs to have Res ERs come to hall meetings
  • Attend and participate in ER Leadership Retreat and ER Orientation
  • Address and communicate the needs of Residential ERs
  • Ensure Res ERs are connecting with their buildings RAs for 1) time to speak during hall meetings, 2) communication/education materials/programs for res hall
  • Support Residential ERs

Being apart of the ER program was and currently is fantastic! I am able to meet new people, learn more about sustainability, and how Agnes conducts waste data, and I am able to meet leaders in the environmental field. For example, leaders from CHaRM and Women of Color Collective in Sustainability. As an ER this year, I am currently working on a project that will showcase different terms and definitions within the environmental justice field through various pedagogy techniques.
